A ten-gram 585 ring contains 5.85 grams of pure gold. Multiplying by the gold price per gram gives material value. A transparent trading margin is deducted; the rest is your payout.
We weigh different purities separately: 333 with 333, 585 with 585, 750 with 750. Combining them would be quicker but disadvantage you.
Alloy colour comes from added metals: copper makes gold redder; silver and palladium make it paler. The gold proportion stays unchanged, so 585 white gold equals 585 yellow gold in value.

Maker's marks and country-specific stamps also appear, such as British 375 or 916 from Turkey and the Arab world. Only the purity figure determines material value.
