Owner

Michael Ilik, your contact

Michael Ilik runs Der Goldmann Nordhorn as its owner and has 8 years of experience in buying precious metals. Inherited jewellery, a coin collection or dental gold: he and his team test every piece in front of you and explain how the price is reached.

There is no pressure: you hear the price, ask your questions and decide in your own time, piece by piece.

Michael also reviews the articles in our Precious metals glossary for accuracy, from hallmarks to tax questions. Each article shows when he last reviewed it.

Deutsch · Nederlands · English

One team, three languages

Everyone in the shop speaks fluent German, Dutch and English. You can discuss the valuation, the price and all your questions in whichever language you prefer.

If you come from the Netherlands, we can pay out to your Dutch bank account. The money usually arrives immediately or within one working day.

Der Goldmann Gruppe

Part of a nationwide group

Behind the name Der Goldmann is a group active across Germany that has been buying precious metals since 2010. More than 200,000 customers have trusted it so far.

Our shop on Schuhmachershagen is part of this group. Michael Ilik runs it as owner, so your contact is always the team here on site.

Testing and price

How we test and value your pieces

We pay for the precious metal in your pieces. For that we need the fineness, the weight and the day's price, and we establish all three in front of you.

Michael tests a piece of jewellery on a touchstone
  1. Reading the hallmark

First we look for the hallmark, the stamp that gives the fineness in thousandths: 333, 585 or 750 for gold, 800 or 925 for silver. More about hallmarks

  2. Testing the fineness

Whether the hallmark is right, or what a piece without one is made of, we test on the touchstone or non-destructively with our X-ray fluorescence analyser. How to recognise real gold yourself is explained under How to tell real gold.

  3. Weighing

Then we weigh on our calibrated precision scale, accurate to a hundredth of a gram. You see the weight yourself.

  4. Quoting the price

We work out the price with the current market price: fineness times weight times price, of which we pay our buying rate. You see every figure before you decide. What that means in euros per gram today is shown in today's old gold prices.
