Scrap gold
Scrap gold is broken or incomplete gold jewellery bought solely for its material value.
Scrap gold means gold jewellery that is damaged, incomplete or no longer wearable: single earrings, bent rings, broken necklaces or clasps, old spectacle frames and dental work. Condition does not affect material value.
The term says nothing about quality. Scrap gold can be 333, 585, 750 or fine gold. A broken 750 bangle is worth more than a flawless 333 necklace of the same weight. Fineness and fine weight remain decisive, not appearance.
Purchased scrap gold goes to a Scheideanstalt (precious metal refinery), or refinery, where it is melted and returned to pure metal. Recycling supplies a significant share of worldwide gold demand. Damaged jewellery is therefore a valuable raw material, not a leftover.
Worked example for a mixed lot
A typical drawer find: 12 grams of 333, 18 grams of 585 and 6 grams of 750. At 120,00 € per gram of fine gold, their material values are 479,52 €, 1.263,60 € and 540,00 €, totalling 2.283,12 €.
At 90 to 95 % of spot, this gives 2.054,81 to 2.168,96 €. If the whole lot were calculated as 333, only 1.438,56 € of material value would remain. That is why we weigh separately by fineness.
Sell scrap gold in Nordhorn
You do not need to clean, sort or repair anything before visiting Nordhorn. Bring the bag or jewellery box as it is. We go through it together, group matching items and show you anything that is not precious metal.
Even tiny quantities can add up: a single earring, a chain remnant or a broken pendant. The valuation is free, no appointment is needed and payment is immediate in cash or by bank transfer.
Fashion jewellery or plated metal is often mixed with old gold. We separate and return both rather than silently weighing them too. You then know exactly what you are being paid for and what you are taking home.
