The calculation

How the old gold price is calculated

It takes just three figures. Knowing them lets you check any offer yourself, including ours.

Spot price × fineness × weight

The market price applies to pure metal. An item marked 585 contains 585 parts gold per 1,000, or 58.5%. Price × fineness gives the price per gram; multiplying by weight gives the material value. At €69.20 per gram, ten grams of 585 gold have a material value of €691.99.

Why the price changes daily

Gold is traded around the clock. Interest-rate decisions, inflation data, the euro exchange rate and general demand constantly move its price. There is no fixed old gold price, only today's price. An offer from last week is already out of date.

Spot price and buying price differ

To be clear, nobody pays the full spot price. Testing, transport and the Scheideanstalt, the precious metal refinery, cost money. We show openly what remains: We pay 97 % for bars and bullion coins. For jewellery and scrap gold, the rate is usually 90 to 95 %, because the material first needs to be refined. The exact amount depends on the metal, fineness and quantity. We tell you before you decide.

A worked example

Suppose you bring a 585 necklace weighing 12 grams. Material value: €69.20 per gram × 12 grams = €830.39. At 90 to 95 % for jewellery gold, you receive €747.35 to €788.87. If the item is a 750 ring instead, the figure is €79.85 to €84.28 per gram. That is exactly how our precious metals calculatorworks, using your own figures.

Materials

Dental gold, scrap gold, jewellery gold

The price depends on fineness, regardless of origin. A broken ring brings the same amount per gram as a flawless one.

Dental gold

Crowns and bridges are alloys, usually between 333 and 900. Ceramic remnants are no problem; we calculate the pure metal portion. Sell dental gold

Scrap gold and old gold

Single earrings, bent necklaces, jewellery-box remnants. No need to sort anything. Sell old gold

Jewellery gold

Wedding rings, necklaces, inherited pieces. For designer jewellery, we also check whether collector value exceeds material value. Sell jewellery

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about old gold prices

On 03/10/2026, the material value of 585 gold is €69.20 per gram and of 750 gold €88.72 per gram. The price changes every trading day. The tables on this page update automatically.

For 585 gold, we usually pay 90 to 95 % of the material value, currently €62.28 to €65.74 per gram. A wedding ring weighing 4 grams therefore comes to around €249.12 to €262.96. We confirm the binding amount after weighing and testing in store.

The market price is the same for everyone; the buying rate is not. Some buyers make deductions for testing, refining or alloy surcharges without openly stating them. No hidden charges. Valuation and weighing are free.

If you no longer wear the gold, selling can be worthwhile when the price is stable or high. See recent weeks' price history on this page. There is no pressure: you can take our quoted price away and decide in your own time.
