375 gold (9 carat)
375 gold consists of 37.5 per cent pure gold, which is 9 carat, and is common above all in jewellery from Great Britain.

375 gold contains 375 parts of pure gold in 1000, so 37.5 per cent. The rest are added metals that determine colour and hardness. This puts 375 just above 333 and well below 585, but like both it is solid gold: the gold is in the whole piece, not just in a layer on the surface.
In Great Britain, 375 is the lowest legal gold fineness and also the most common: in 2023 around 60 per cent of all hallmarked gold articles there carried this stamp. British gold items from one gram also carry compulsory marks: the mark of the assay office and the sponsor's mark of the responsible maker or dealer.
In Germany, jewellery may be stamped in any fineness, including 375. For affordable gold jewellery, however, 333 was the norm in Germany for decades. A piece stamped 375 or 9K therefore often comes from Great Britain.
As of 22/10/2026: 1 gram of 375 gold has a material value of €43.66.
Current gold prices by finenessHow many carats is 375 gold?
375 gold is 9 carat. Carat counts the gold content in 24 parts, and 9 out of 24 parts is exactly 0.375. In English-speaking countries the piece often shows 9K, 9 kt, 9ct or 9 carat instead of the number; it is the same alloy.
In Great Britain the millesimal mark 375 has been compulsory since 1999; the mark 9 carat may appear in addition.
What is the difference between 375 and 585 gold?
Both are solid gold; they differ in gold content: 375 gold contains 37.5 per cent pure gold, 585 gold 58.5 per cent. Per gram, 585 therefore holds a good one and a half times as much fine gold as 375. The table shows all common gold hallmarks with their material value per gram.
| Hallmark (stamp) | Carat | Fine gold content | Value per gramAs of 22/10/2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 333 | 8 | 33.3% | €38.77 |
| 375 | 9 | 37.5% | €43.66 |
| 417 | 10 | 41.7% | €48.55 |
| 585 | 14 | 58.5% | €68.11 |
| 750 | 18 | 75.0% | €87.32 |
| 916 | 22 | 91.6% | €106.64 |
| 999 | 24 | 99.9% | €116.30 |
Compared with 333 the gap is small: 375 contains 42 thousandths more gold, so a good eighth more fine gold per gram. For all three alloys we buy by fineness and weight, not by where the piece comes from.
