Glossary
Lab-grown diamond
A lab-grown diamond forms under controlled conditions. It is a diamond with a different origin from a naturally formed stone.
Lab-grown diamonds have essentially the same chemical composition and similar physical and optical properties as natural diamonds. Their growth conditions leave characteristics that specialist laboratories can distinguish.
Cubic zirconia and moissanite are different materials. They may resemble a diamond but are not lab-grown diamonds. Every offer should therefore clearly state origin.
What to ask when comparing
Ask for the origin, weight and documented quality characteristics. Check which laboratory and grading system are named. A similar appearance implies neither the same price nor a guaranteed future resale value.
