Krugerrand
The Krugerrand is the world's oldest and most traded bullion coin and contains exactly one troy ounce of fine gold.
The Krugerrand has been minted in South Africa since 1967 and was the first gold coin specifically aimed at private investors. Paul Kruger appears on the obverse and a springbok on the reverse. It remains the world's best-selling bullion coin.
The one-ounce coin is 916.7 gold, or 22 carat, and contains exactly one troy ounce of fine gold. Its copper content gives it a gross weight of 33.93 grams and a slightly reddish colour. Half-, quarter- and tenth-ounce versions have the same fineness.
The Krugerrand has no stamped face value, but it is legal tender in South Africa. Its price follows gold entirely. Collector premiums arise only for rare years or special proof issues.
What a Krugerrand can bring today
At a gold price of 120,00 € per gram of fine gold, a Krugerrand contains fine gold worth 3.732,42 €. What matters is its full troy ounce, not the gross weight of 33.93 grams.
We buy investment gold at 97 % of spot, giving 3.620,45 € for the one-ounce coin. A half-ounce correspondingly brings around 1.810,22 €, and a tenth-ounce approximately 362,04 €.
Sell Krugerrands in Nordhorn
Bullion coins are handled quickly at our Nordhorn counter: test, weigh, check the price and pay. We check diameter, thickness and weight because counterfeit Krugerrands are in circulation and can be reliably identified this way.
You do not need a capsule, certificate or original packaging, though they do no harm. Scratches and handling marks do not reduce a bullion coin's value, because payment is for its fine gold content. No appointment is needed; it is best to give brief notice for larger lots.
Alongside Krugerrands, we buy all common bullion coins, from Maple Leaf and Vienna Philharmonic to Vreneli and Sovereign. The calculation is the same for each: fine gold content × today's price, then the investment gold buying rate.
